Cyberstar adds Hitachi HDDs to kitty

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) has appointed Bangalore-based Cyberstar Infocom as distributor for its entire range of hard disks. The distributor has been appointed at a national level, as it has branches and channel partners across the country.

Although the company hasn't revealed much information, sources close to the distributor say that the company has been looking at adding storage products to its portfolio for some time and the tie-up with Hitachi was just right.

The fact that Hitachi manufactures HDDs for notebooks too, only strengthens Cyberstar's position in the market.

Company sources said that initially the disk drives would be driven through its existing channel partners. Partners would be added as and when demand increases.

Incidentally, HGST was the first company to launch 7200-rpm drives for mobile computing.
