Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has announced the world's largest capacity drive, 400GB - Deskstar 7K400. Targeted at high end audio video (AV) segment and data warehouses, the drive would be available in India with Spectra Innovations and Cyberstar.

Some of the technical specifications are: 757 MB/s max. media data rate; 8.5 ms average seek time; 7,200 RPM, ATA-100/Serial ATA 1.5 GB/s; 25.4 mm in height, 61.7 billion bits per square inch maximum areal density; 5 aluminum platters; 10 GMR recording heads; 225 G (2ms) non-operating shock; 9.0 watt idle power (Parallel ATA); 9.6 watt idle power (Serial ATA); 3.1 Bels typical idle acoustics; and Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) spindle motor.

This drive can store up to 400 hours of standard TV programming, 45 hours of HDTV programming and more than 6500 hours of digital music. The drive has an 8MB-buffer and carries a three-year warranty.
