Hitachi offers 3-yr warranty on HDDs
By Nagesh Joshi ,May 06, 2004
After much
deliberation, Hitachi has introduced 3-year local warranty support on its hard disk drives
sold in India.
Hitachi's exclusive national distributor Cyberstar's marketing director Rajiv
Chaudhari said, "We want Hitachi to gain 10 percent market share in hard
disk drive space within next three months. The 3-year warranty and competitive
pricing can give us an edge over competitors."
Hitachi's entry level product, the 40 GB 7,200-rpm,
is priced at Rs 2,800 (at par with Samsung) while the 80 GB 7,200-rpm drive is
priced at Rs 3,850.
"Hitachi has the widest range (from 40GB to 400GB
SATA, to SCSI drives to notebook drives) than any other brand. The 3-year
warranty feature will prove beneficial as customers are looking for more
options," said Hitesh Mody,
director, Jaydee Electronics, a channel partner from
Mumbai. These hard disk drives originally being IBM's products are perceived as
good quality products by customers, he added.
Hitachi HDDs are currently available with Cyberstar's
partners in 13 cities in India.
